Admissions & Transfer

Little Acorns' staff aim to ensure smooth entry into pre-school, transition through EYFS and into the school's Reception Class (if your child secures a place with us).  We offer a comprehensive induction programme for pupils prior to starting Little Acorns which is designed to allow the children to become familiar with staff and routines and for parents to meet with the staff. Likewise all rising-5 Little Acorns will experience life in the Reception class with regular visits into the 'big' classroom, meeting their teachers and having lots of fun in a new environment.

If you are considering Little Acorns for your child then please do get in touch as we always encourage visits from prospective parents and carers.  Once your little one starts with us (a nervous time for child and adult alike at times!), you are welcome to stay with your child until you both feel settled and the fun and excitement of new toys and activities kicks in and you are able to leave with a smile on your face too!

Age of Admission

Little Acorns has provision for up to 30 children per session.  We operate a waiting list for children who wish to attend sessions that are over-subscribed and similarly we are happy to receive enquiries from parents/carers of children who are yet not 2.5 years of age who wish to register their child's name.  Invoices for non-funded sessions and additional sessions over the 15 hours free nursery entitlement (if you are not eligible for 30 hours) are sent on a termly basis and we ask that 50% is paid at the start of term with the remainder due by half-term.

Please note that the free nursery entitlement of 15 hours (or 30 hours depending on eligibility) begins the term AFTER your child turns 3 years of age.  Little Acorns is not currently able to provide any 2 year old funded places and can only accept children from the term AFTER they turn 2.5 years. We currently have availability throughout the week so please contact us for more details.

  • Funded children can book in to attend any session (subject to availability)
  • A funded child can book in for additional paid sessions @ £4.50 p/h (subject to availability)
  • 2.5 years am or pm sessions priced £15

30 Hours Free Funded Hours

As of September 2017 the Government is now providing 30 hours of nursery funding to families where both parents are working.

You can check whether you are eligible for a range of government childcare offers, including 30 hours, via Childcare Choices at: https://www.childcarechoices.gov.uk or the Childcare Calculator at https://www.gov.uk/childcare-calculator. If you may be eligible for 30 hours and/or Tax-Free Childcare, you will be directed to the digital childcare service to apply.

For a more detailed guide to the 30 hours eligibility criteria visit:
https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/30-hours-free-childcare-eligibility.  You are able to apply for both 30 hours and Tax-Free Childcare at the same time by entering your details once. HMRC will check your eligibility for both schemes at the same time.

At the end of the online application process, successful applicants will have a childcare service account where you will be allocated an 11 digit ‘eligibility code’ for your child.  You will be asked to take this code, along with your NI number, to pre-school so Little Acorns can have it validated and, if successful, confirm with you your child’s 30 hours funded place.

If you need assistance to apply, or do not have access to the internet, please call the childcare service Customer Interaction Centre on 0300 1234097 to apply over the phone.

You will not need to apply through the digital childcare service if you only want to claim the universal 15 hours entitlement for three and four year olds.
