A warm welcome to our Early Years Acorns (Reception) Class page!

Here in Acorns we want to ensure your child feels happy, safe and develops a positive attitude to learning within their first years at school so they can continue to flourish, embrace the joy of discovery and acquire the desire to want to find out more in the future. To ensure this we nurture, develop and celebrate each child as an individual by creating a safe, friendly and inspiring learning environment which promotes our rules of ‘being ready, being respectful, being safe and being kind.

On our EYFS page you can find out about what we are learning, our daily routines, important events and see what Early Years is all about!

The EYFS includes seven key areas of learning and development which include:

*Communication and Language

*Personal, Social and Emotional Development

*Physical Development

*Literacy

*Mathematics

*Understanding the World

*Expressive Arts and Design.

The EYFS emphasizes learning through play-based activities which are set up in our effective and engaging indoor and outdoor learning environments.

We begin our learning at 8.35am with a morning activity and an opportunity for the children to vote for their book of the day.

Children will need a water bottle, reading book and reading record daily. Our PE sessions are every Thursday and Friday, but children will need a labelled PE kit daily. This will be sent home when in need of a wash.

On hot days, remember to send the children in with a hat and apply sun lotion before school.

In the winter months, always ensure your child has a warm coat because we will often be learning outside. The children will also need a change of outdoor wet weather clothes and wellies for Outdoor Wild Tribe Learning which takes place every Wednesday.

Each half term the children will complete a home school task and information about how parents can support at home with their child's learning and development, as well as the daily reading using our phonics home school reading books.

My favourite book when I was young was 'The Tiger Who Came To Tea' by Judith Kerr. I loved the thought of a tiger coming to my house for tea and how we could play in my garden.

Five things to know about me!

1. I love dressing up as story book characters. My favourite dress up days are International Talk Like a Pirate Day and World Book Day…which I love just as much as my own birthday!

2. I have a Border Collie (Sheep Dog) called Rollo who is very energetic and ironically terrified of sheep!

3. I am an avid collector of children's books and am told that a book collection needs to contain at least 1000 books in order to be considered a library. Challenge accepted and almost completed!

4. I am Welsh and have lived in Cornwall for 13 years. I love the similarities within the language and culture and exploring new places with my husband.

5. I love to draw and have had some of my Art work displayed in galleries, as well as a few paintings auctioned.
