Maple Year 5 Class 2025-26

Mrs Jones

Class Teacher

Welcome to Year 5 Maple Class!

Hello and welcome to our Year 5 Maple class! I’m so excited to be working with your child this year and to share all the exciting learning we have planned.

Our Day Begins at 8:45am
Children can enter through the Key Stage One playground via the Key Stage One door. We begin our learning promptly with engaging spelling activities and maths fluency, so it’s important to arrive on time and ready to go!

What to Bring Each Day
Please ensure your child brings the following items every day:

  • Their reading book and reading record
  • A labelled water bottle
  • A positive attitude and a curious mind!

PE and Outdoor Learning

  • PE kits should be kept in school and should consist of a black shorts, trainers and a white t-shirt.
  • We will be enjoying Outdoor Learning, so please dress appropriately for the weather.
  • In colder months, a warm coat is essential as we do take our learning outside.

Art and Creativity
Art can get messy, so please send in an old adult t-shirt labelled with your child’s name to help protect their uniform.

Homework and Reading

  • Spelling homework will be set every Friday and tested the following Friday.
  • We encourage reading at least five times a week at home even for our most able readers to build vocabulary.
  • In class, we’ll be exploring texts in depth through guided reading sessions, helping children develop their comprehension and interpretation skills.

Labelling
Please make sure all belongings are clearly labelled to help us return any lost items quickly.

A Little About Me
I’d love for you to get to know me too! Here are ten fun facts:

  1. I have two children, Sam and Cam—you’ll probably hear lots about them!
  2. My family dog, Mia, lives with my parents and adores cuddles.
  3. As a child, I dreamed of becoming an author and writing books for children.
  4. I was born in Bath but have lived in Cornwall since I was 13.
  5. I love sports—especially walking on Dartmoor and sea swimming these days.
  6. Horses are my favourite animals.
  7. I used to play the cello in my school orchestra and I love to sing.
  8. I’ve flown in a hot air balloon over Dartmoor!
  9. My favourite place I’ve visited is Canada—I was mesmerised by Niagara Falls.
  10. I adore the beach, especially when it’s cold and stormy. You’ll often find me rock pooling with a flask of hot chocolate and my wellies on!

My favourite childhood book was Wind in the Willows—I loved the adventures and mischief of Mr. Toad. Science was my favourite subject because I enjoyed discovering new things, and now I find it hard to choose just one favourite—I love them all!

I’m really looking forward to a fantastic year of learning, laughter, and discovery with your children. If you have any questions or need to get in touch, please don’t hesitate to reach out.

Warm wishes,
Mrs Jones
