Welcome to Year 4- Birch class
Strong roots feed a lifetime of learning.
Did you know how special birch trees are? Birch trees are inspiring- often the first trees to grow after hardship, such as forest fires. We aim to teach learners to be resilient and determined, just like this.
Arriving and Departing from School
Birch class is situation in the old school building, adjacent to the main reception. Children will enter through the door at the top of the steps just inside the top gates of the Key Stage 1 playground. Children will have a soft start to the day- arriving between 8.35am-8.45am. Children will also leave from this door at 3.15pm.
Homework
In Year 4, the children will be given reading, maths and spelling homework. Each week, please aim for your child to complete 5 reads. Please can this be recorded in their reading diary. Maths will be centred around times tables and arithmetic.
Times Tables:
At the end of Year 4, the children will be sitting a statutory multiplication check, where they will be expected to recall all times tables facts up to 12x12. As a school, we have invested in the Times Tables Rockstars computer programme and this has shown to have a huge impact. Spending just 10 minutes a day on this can significantly increase your child’s ability to remember and recall all times tables facts.
Equipment needed:
Your child must bring a water bottle to school each day. On hot days, please apply suncream and bring your child to school in a sun hat. On cold or wet days, please make sure your child brings a coat . We will still be using the outdoor space in the event of rain.
Please make sure all clothing and equipment is clearly labelled with their name.
